Books of 2023

In 2023 I read 102 books, the most I’ve read in a single year, here are a list of books I enjoyed the most. They aren’t books that were just released this year but from any time I just happened to read them this year.

Around the World by bike - Alastair Humphreys
This was a journey around the world by bike, I really enjoyed this learning about different cultures and countries and just an adventure from start to finish and something to be in awe of, the time and dedication to complete the journey.

The Defense - Steve Cavanagh
Realistically this could be any Steve Cavanagh book, I picked The Defense because it was the first I read. I enjoy the pace of his books and the twists and topics of the and how the stories unravel intrigue me. Will continue to read his books (already have a few lined up.

Kala - Colin Walsh
This was set in a small Irish town, I enjoyed the atmosphere in this and the whodunnit story, at the start I was unsure about the jumping back and forward but overall it was a very good read.

Planet of the Apes - Pierre Boulle
I enjoyed this much than what I enjoyed the movies which were loosely based on the book. I can’t remember specifics of why I enjoyed the book but I do remember that I enjoyed it.

The Time Machine - HG Wells
I really enjoyed the new world that was created in this, for something that is as old as it is, it would make a great modern story to be adapted into a film.

The Black Dreams - Various
I got this as a Secret Santa from the bookclub and despite being a late contender it is my favorite of the year. It’s a mixture of short stories from Northern Ireland by authors who live/lived/or spent time in Northern Ireland. The stories are very unsettling and dark but I thought they were great.

There are my favorite books of 2023, hopefully some more crackers next year again too.
